How much do you really need? How much is enough? If we listen to the voice of our human nature or the message from the world, then nothing is ever enough. We live in a consumer focused world. Many things we hear on a constant basis is about getting more, being more, doing more. There is, however, a place of contentment and satisfaction when we turn our hearts and spirits toward what the Lord gives.
The psalmist writes, “You are my portion.” Another translation says, “You have satisfied me.”
If we could learn to turn our attention away from the getting and getting from the world - to the contentment and satisfaction from the Lord, we would probably find much more peace and rest.
Getting is a hurried business. If there is always more that we have to do and more that we have to get and more that we have to accomplish, then there is probably very little time to just rest in the blessings of what God has already given.
Contentment is a peaceful business. It’s not laziness, it’s not being unambitious, it’s an understanding that the Lord has already provided everything we need for today and tomorrow.
God, give us the faith to say as the psalmist, “You are my portion. You have satisfied me.”
