You surely know what being worn out is like. I have a few shirts that I refuse to throw away. They are shirts once worn in public, now because of holes, rips, and stains, only see the light of my four walls at home. But they’re still good shirts. I wear them to lounge around the house or do repair work around the house. They’re worn out, but still useful.
Do you ever feel worn out like this? Once proudly parading in public, but now because of how age and experience has left you torn and stained, you’d rather just stay inside.
Life has a way of doing this to all. Our bodies are not permanent. Every wrinkle and scar tells a story. Every gray hair rightfully earned. We come to the place where we feel - worn out. But our existence is not just our bodies. We can be renewed, restored, refreshed on the inside. And that makes all the difference in our usefulness and attitude.
There is a beautiful contrast that happens in our lives. Outwardly we are wasting away, but inwardly we can be renewed daily. That’s done by the power of the Holy Spirit. That power fuels the fire of our fortitude to keep going and never give up.
We feel worn out from time to time and we just want to hide away. But when we allow the Spirit to renew and refresh us, there are no walls that can keep us inside.
