Mark 4:40 - He said to His disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

The Lord wants our faith and trust in Him to grow. He doesn’t want our lives or relationship with Him to be static, but to grow steadily stronger and deeper. That happens through every moment of our relationship with Him, the quiet ones and the stormy ones.
The disciples were in a boat with Jesus when a storm came. Waves were threatening to overtake and swamp their boat. Jesus was taking a nap through the storm. The disciples were worried and finally woke Jesus up to do something. And of course, He did. He quited the winds and waves and everything became completely calm. And Jesus questions the disciples on their fear and lack of trust. They witnessed with their own eyes the miracles that Christ had performed. They heard with their ears the truths of God. And Jesus was still surprised at their fear and lack of faith.
We have seen God’s power. We have heard God’s truth in Christ. We have believed in Jesus for everlasting life. And yet I wonder how many times He reacts to us in our lack of faith the same as He did to the disciples. When we are in the middle of a storm, and we are in the boat with Jesus, why do we still have fear and doubt?
I would like to think for myself, that if I were in the boat with Jesus, after witnessing His miraculous works, and a storm came to threaten our lives - that I would have faith enough to just stay with Jesus. If Jesus has peace enough to sleep, shouldn’t I? If Jesus isn’t worried about the storm, should I? If the boat starts to sink, can’t the One who walks on water hold my hand and bring me up as well?
