It’s quite a shocking thing to realize that something of yours has been stolen. It’s a violation that makes you feel not in control. Another person has taken something that rightfully belongs to you and that sense of loss is real - whether it’s something small or an enormous amount of money. And it’s a whole new level of anger and frustration, that I can’t say I’ve experienced, when a loved one loses their life in a violent or criminal way.
Jesus teaches, that’s exactly what our enemy wants to do to His followers, to everyone in fact. The thief, the murderer, the destroyer is not a respecter of persons or property. His aim and goal is to take away and destroy. Many times those not following the Lord don’t realize the harm and loss that’s headed their way. Many times, believers don’t realize what danger there is in this world because of that enemy.
But we have a Shepherd, a Deliverer more powerful than the enemy in this world. As the enemy wants to take away, our Savior wants to give. The loss that we experience in this world does not compare with the gain we have in following Christ. What the thief steals, what the enemy murders and destroys cannot be compared to the abundance and overflow of grace and life Christ offers.
When we experience loss, know that Christ will replace and restore. That sense of not being in control because the enemy takes away will be replaced with peace and contentment in what the Lord provides. Don’t place your focus on what has been stolen, but in what the Lord gives in abundance.
