Sometimes the opportunities and moments for God’s people to act are clear and evident. Recently, our news feeds have been filled with images of people in definite need. Hurricane and floods have hit, not only our country but around the world. People’s lives have been lost into the dozens nationally and into the thousands globally. Also, within the past few weeks we have seen social and civil unrest time and time again because of race and creed.
Paul says, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people. This is not talking about a spatial sense in time, but rather a decisive moment. We should do good to all in those decisive moments that presents themselves. Why? What is the therefor, there for? Galatians 6:9, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Most likely we narrow that verse down many times to only mean ourselves personally. But the harvest to reap is not just for ourselves, rather for all.
Those decisive moments are always before us though. We just have to pay attention and notice them. Yes, they are in the news right now. It’s clear that many people need our prayers, gifts, and serve team efforts. We should and we will help. However, when our social media feeds sees less and less news of flooded homes, when the waters recede and the buildings are repaired, our decisive moments to help do not.
Look around you, those opportune times are everywhere. The harvest is ready and ripe all around us. Let us do good to all!
