Dominating the news today is the effects from a powerful hurricane barreling to and through the southeastern part of the United States. Other parts are still in recovery from the aftermath of another hurricane weeks before. Still in the hearts and memory of many people is the devastation caused by another powerful hurricane about twelve years ago. And still a new hurricane is on the brink and path toward the US for next week.
Dooms dayers, climate changers, and everyone in between comes out of the woodwork in times like these. Thieves and scammers rear their ugly heads as well, aiming to take money from innocent people in the name of recovery. Preachers, prophets, wannabes, and soap boxers all try to grab for their fifteen minutes.
These storms are not retribution from God because of a certain people group. There’s no fault to blame because of the sin of some. These storms and natural disasters have been happening for decades, for centuries, for a millennia. Jesus even said things like this would happen in the last days.
What’s true and will always be true is the fact that God will always help us in the storms of life. Is God able to quiet these disasters with a command and have the winds die down to a whisper? Yes. Is God able to help His people through the devastation in these catastrophes? Yes. Do we believe that as God’s people?
The voice of the Lord is over the waters, more powerful than the waters and winds. The God of glory thunders as His people stand in awe of what He will do.
