The Lord wants the best for us. Sometimes that’s hard to believe and accept with all the hard stuff we go through. It was hard for us to believe our parents before they spanked us when they said, “This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you.” We have such an ingrained performance based reality that we instantly assess bad or difficult moments as punishment.
The Lord speaking through Isaiah here in chapter 48 is bringing encouragement in a very difficult time in their history. Exiled and ruled by Babylon because of their sin and disobedience, God brings them comfort and encouragement. He actually wants the best for them. Their current situation is not the end. There is much better on the way, as God directs the way.
We do at times experience very harsh circumstances because of our own sin and disobedience. We also experience difficulty just because of the world we live in. Either way, we must know that there is something greater in store for us by the hand of God.
He teaches us and directs us, even in the middle of a place that we wish we were not in. He wants the best for us. We just need to trust and believe.
