James 1:23,24 - Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

One of my first jobs was working for a one hour film developing store. People brought by their 35mm rolls of film to be developed into photographs, in an hour or less. It really only took about 20 minutes. It was a whole ordeal, carefully taking out the film roll from the 35mm container. Then running it through a huge machine that would take the negative and put it on a 4x6 or 5x7 card.
In those days, either the 35mm camera or a quick shot polaroid is how most people took pictures. It was more of a trial and error to take pictures because you didn’t know what the end result would be until the picture was developed. Today, it’s much simpler. You take your camera in your phone, line the shot up, take it, then edit it to your liking. The pics we take today, never really show much reality. We edit the pictures of ourselves to look more desirable and accepted. We can now edit those wrinkles out, whiten our teeth, shade it just right that we look like models. But it’s not real. It’s a fleeting reflection of self.
That’s what James says happens when we only listen to the words and commands of God, but never actually apply and obey. Our lives just become edited pictures. They are fleeting reflections of reality.
But the one who does what God says is the person who sees the powerful reality of life. They’re not deceived into a lie. They are blessed with the truth of God. See the real picture today by obeying God’s Word.
