It’s a great comfort knowing that the Lord is watching over us, leading us, teaching us, and guiding us in the right direction. It’s also wonderfully comforting to know that many times He does this without our knowledge.
A new feature that many cars rolling off the assembly line has is a lane departure warning. Some people while driving a long time may have a tendency to dose off or maybe even veer off in another lane unaware. This feature monitors your driving and if it seems something is wrong, it will alert you. I believe this is similar to what the Lord does for us.
In David’s Psalm, he knows of God’s great guidance and protection. And as God speaks through him to those who would hear and read, God says that He will instruct, teach, and counsel His people. But there is a warning that follows in verse 9, which says, “Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.”
God loves to instruct and teach us. Part of who He is and what He does is graciously and generously guide us, counsel us, and watch over us. But He also wants us to pay attention to where we’re going.
He will warn us when we start to veer off into another lane, but we actually have to sober up and take the wheel. He wants us to learn from the mistakes and trust in Him all the more. Not like mindless animals that have no understanding.
Let God continue to guide and direct you, He loves to do so. But listen to His instruction today and follow completely.
