Psalm 73:16 - When I tried to understand all of this, it was oppressive to me...
So, you're not the only one who's ever thought, "Life is not fair!"
It's really, all over Psalms. The beauitful Psalms speak of the heartbreak, the struggle, the hurt, and the un-fairness of human existence.
We all have our "Life is not fair" moments. We compare ourselves with others - which is sort of like a disease. We envy the good life of others - or really, just how others seem not to be riddled with whatever problems we are carrying.
We say, "God, this is not fair!" I mean, how can it be? Surely we don't deserve the struggle we are expereincing. We didn't do anything to cause this. Look at others - they truly deserve it. They don't love God as much as you, right?
This type of comparitive living is downright oppressive!
Psalm 73:17 - ...till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny.
Psalms speak of the hurt we experience, but also the victory we can enjoy. The Psalm writer, beatdown by the unfairness of life, turns his attention upward and it becomes clear.
When we're too busy focused on life's equity based on others - whether the other person is a believer or not - our attention is divided and distracted.
You're right, you don't deserve this - but what has that got to do with anything? You don't deserve the blessings and grace God gives you as well.
Stop looking at others. Look toward God. Enter the sanctuary of His presence and receive His peace. Know that God is more than enough.
