Probably somewhere high on my list of things I least want to do is wearing a name tag. At some parties or get togethers everyone will be asked to fill out a name tag and stick it on your shirt. I try my best to lose it somewhere in the first few minutes. Some places of employment ask that you wear one, which is understandable in retail or fast food, simply because of the volume of people you meet. I guess my dislike of name tags come from aspects of my introverted personality. Kind of like my dislike of wearing brightly colored or wildly designed shirts because it seems like I’m shouting in public for everyone to look at me.
Thankfully, as believers there is no need to wear a name tag or brightly colored clothes because we are marked and singled out with a much greater identification. We are surely known by our acts of love, our compassion for others, our kindness, faithfulness, generosity, and other fruits of the Spirit. But the Spirit marks and seals us with an identification that not only tells who we are but instills us with the promise and hope of what is to come.
As we believe Christ for salvation, the Holy Spirit marks us as possessions belonging to Christ and His kingdom. We cannot be lost in the crowd. He cannot and will not forget for forsake us. We are deposited with a holy hope that leads us toward full redemption. He knows our names, our identity, and our everlasting destination.
