Today is Halloween. If you didn’t have a calendar or know what day is was, it would be easy to decipher for all of the images of ghosts, ghouls, demons, witches, skeletons, and the like. Of course, many retail stores already have Christmas trees and decorations next to the pumpkins, so it could be a little confusing. But it’s easy to see that it’s Halloween season.
For whatever the history behind Halloween, we know that it’s a season that has evolved into a time to scare people and/or be scared. I don’t know what malfunction I have inside, but I like to scare people or more accurately shock scare them, but not frighten. People who are frightened or fearful are filled with with a reality that’s out of control, for them anyway. Fears can be anything or everything. However, that mindset shows a lack of trust.
Outside of Halloween season, many people are still frightened and fearful - of life, of chance, of tomorrow, of today. We, as the people of God, have no reason to fear what’s in this world. We have His holy love. In that love, there is trust. In God’s love there is hope, and in that love there is perfection.
Don’t be frightened today, nor tomorrow. Don’t let fear rule your mind or life. Trust in the perfect love of God and let fear be thrown away.
