My wife and I have been blessed with some amazing daughters. They are young women who constantly impress us with their heart, compassion, generosity, and gifts they share with the world. They are very different and have different skill sets, but they both offer the world something special and unique. We are very proud of them and in no way ashamed to be called their mother and father.
From watching them compete in sporting events or watching them on stage, there’s a part of me that just wants to stand up and tell everyone around, “That’s my daughter!” It probably would be embarrass them a bit though. And our love for them isn’t just limited to their strengths. In their weakness and failures, there is not a moment that our heads have not been held high in pride.
If my wife and I, as weak and imperfect human beings, can love our children that much, how much more greater does God have a love for His creation that is never ending. I believe God’s love is the kind of love that He is not ashamed of us, but proudly shouts to the world, “That’s my son!” or “That’s my daughter!”
And we should never be ashamed to call Him our Father. His love is not dependent on our success or strengths, but His love is even greater in our sins and failures. How great is the love the Father has lavished on us that we should be called the children of God!
