Hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, nuclear threat, global warming, mass shootings, terrorists attacks, the list goes on and on. Just in the past decade or so, and even in the last couple of weeks, some very terrible things have happened in the world. It’s enough to really give fear a prominent place in our lives.
When we read and listen to the news, when we stay focused to opinions and bursts of slander and criticism on social media, when we try to make sense of the chaos in the world - it ends up just putting our lives in chaos. We become frantic and frenetic.
These chaotic scenes are not exclusive to our generation. Sights of disaster and destruction has always been around. The fevered pitch of bad news has been bringing people to a high level of stress since the beginning. But even in all of this, there is a peace and security God’s people can hold.
That’s why God says, “Be still, and know that I am God.”
In the natural disasters that takes months and sometimes years to recover from, God says, “Be still and know that I am God.”
In the judgmental slander on social media, God says, “Be still and know that I am God.”
In the chaotic movement of our fearful minds in everything going on in the world - God says, “Be still and know that I am God.”
