Psalm 27:14 - Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.
A lesson I'm continuing to learn.
Wait for the Lord...
* When you're in a hurry.
* When you think God is late or slow.
* When a need has to be met NOW or else...
* When you can't take the pressure anymore.
* When people gossip about you.
* When you have the ability and opportunity to avenge your good name.
* When it seems nothing ever changes.
* When it seems everything is changing too quickly.
* When it's too quiet.
* When it's too loud.
* When you've had enough and you want to quit.
* When you want to complain.
* When it's hurts so much all you can do is cry.
* When it's hurts so much and you have no cry left.
Wait for the Lord...
There's a pretty popular show, at least in my house, that's on TruTV called, Impractical Jokers. It's a show about 4 middle aged men who've been friends since school and prank one another. It's sophomoric, adolescent, and funny.
One bit they've done is that they have to stop a random person on the street, tell that person a secret that the others reveal in a hidden ear piece, and then try to get that stranger to share a secret back. Of course, the secrets they share to the strangers are ridiculous and not really secrets, but a few of the random passers by really reveal a secret to the jokers. Which, they probably did out of the sheer ridicuousness of the situation.
Now, in real life, no one really shares a secret to someone they don't know.
The same with God.
Psalm 25:14 - The Lord confides in those who fear Him; He makes His covenant known to them.
God wants to tell you things. He wants to share with you, not just secrets, but revelations of His goodness and power. But He won't do that, unless He knows you - or, unless you know Him.
It's pretty awesome that God Almighty confides in those who fear, revere, worship, honor, & seek Him. It's cool that He reveals who He is, His goodness and grace to those who want to know. And it just makes sense that God won't do that to some stranger or passer by.
My prayer today: Lord I seek You! I worship and honor You. I trust You. Trust me today, and reveal who You are. Confide in me. Make your glory and goodness known to me.
Mark 8:12 - "Why does this generation ask for a miraculous sign? I tell you the truth, no sign will be given to it."
We live in a consumer world. It's all about intake. It's what we want, when we want it, how we want it. Of course, we're sold a stock of goods, but we make the decision to buy. It's consumerism on our terms. And products succeed or fail based on the consumer.
Christiainity is not about consumerism.
We try and try to make it that way. How? Because we want belief and faith on our terms. We demand proof. We want a reason to believe. We say, "God, if you're there, show me!" We think if God doesn't answer our prayers how and when we want, then surely, God must not exist.
Jesus performed so many miracles, or signs. The Gospels are filled with sections of how He healed the blind, lame, and deaf. Again and again He set free demoniacs. These were things that no mere man could accomplish. He revealed truth thorugh parables. He taught the oldest and most learned priests and teachers of the law. He fed thousands with multiplying a few loaves of bread and fish.
And still, religious leaders and people needed, and demanded a sign from heaven.
So, aside from everything else that He did over and over, people wanted a sign - something miraculous to prove that Jesus was who He said He was.
Well, belief doesn't work that way.
Those who asked for a sign wanted their spirituality, their belief on their terms, not God's. That's the epic, high standing skyscraper of pride and selfishness.
Why don't we just take God at His Word? Why don't we realize everything that He does for us on a contant basis? Notice the blessings that He gives daily. Don't continue to seek proof and package it as belief seeking because that is disbelief.
I don't want Christianity to be on my terms, only on Christ's.
